Just Wrong
by Breeze

"God just sucks!" Grace was saying as they walked out of the gym in yet another discussion of God.
"Don't say that, Grace. He is real!"
"No he's not. And if he was he would be more open."
"How do you mean, I don't know about open but he does a wide variety of `stuff' "
"He is just a closed minded fool as he always was!"
"What if I told you he is real."
"That is what everyone says Joan and I don't believe it….I have to go that's my bus."
"Oh okay, call me later?"

The evening became dark as Joan walked home, the neighbor next door approached the Girardi fence when Joan hit the walkway to her house.
"Hi, Joan."
"Hi Mr. Brown."
"Beautiful night tonight, isn't it."
He looked up to the stars that were slowly shining through.
"Sure."
He had never really spoke with her until now.
"You know you should listen more instead of trying to get you point across. Especially to Grace. She is a different individual."
"Oh it's you again. What are you talking about? I was listening to her."
"You weren't really hearing her though. She is in a cross road to go down the right path or the wrong one."
"I thought there was no `wrong' way just a more difficult way?"
"No there is a wrong way on this particular subject."
"What subject? We didn't get to talk long before the bus came."
"You will have to talk with her, again."
"Yeah."
As she turned to walk up the stairs he calls to her.
"And don't forget who I am in the process."
"Yeah, yeah."
She was annoyed at him even more at these times.

The next day Grace walked up the steps to the school when Joan practically appeared out of no where.
"Hey Grace, care to talk?"
She placed her arm over Grace's shoulder and pulled her aside out to the center of the lawn that s urrounded the school.
"Sure you do."
They made their way to the bench that was recently vacated.
"Take a seat." They both sat, Grace in a slump while Joan sat facing her all bright eyes, and smiles.
After they got situated on the bench Joan again spoke cheerily.
"So," drawing out the word.
"What do you need to talk about. I know a whole lot about god, heck I know him maybe if we start there?"
"You know a whole lot about god? What do you know about god?"
"To continue with yesterdays conversation…..what do you mean about not open? He may have you do odd things but he is open about it.
Having me make my own decisions and choices."
"That doesn't mean open it means you can chose between what he thinks is right."
"He may put me in a direction but it's still my thoughts in the end."
"Joan you just don't understand…"
She stood up and was ready to walk away.
Joan stood as well and reached out for her stopping Grace where she stood without even putting too much effort into it.
"Stop Grace, talk to me…what's wrong…"
When Grace turned around she hesitated, staring at Joan eyes moving from one to the other before centering on her lips.
"This is what's wrong…" she trailed off as she closed the space between them to touch her lips to Joan's.
As they separated Joan stammered. "That is wrong!" She wiped the back of her hand across her own lips almost tempted to spit.
"With you talking all god all the time I knew it would be this way." And Joan just allowed Grace to walk away and out of her life forever.
She never mentioned it to God and doubted she ever would and he certainly wouldn't approach the subject that he thought was so wrong.

End.
