Jon still has whiskey pooled in the ridges of his molars when he finds Spencer on the other side of the fire; Spencer is gangly, soft belly, blue eyes, hair darker in the shadows. He's too old to be coltish, but still threatening to grow any second, like maybe Jon just has to lean in to kiss him now, but he might have to tilt his face up by the time he coaxes Spencer into opening his mouth.

And I wouldn't kiss you if you had TEN mistletoes. He briefly wonders whether that's too harsh, then remembers it's Brendon he's talking to, and underlines the sentence twice. He sends it to the back of the room as a snow goose.
It doesn't take a minute for the answer to come. Ryan looks down in surprise at the barely-there tugging on his pant leg, and finds a little polar bear climbing up his calf. It bats a tiny, paper paw at his hand when he tries to help it along, so Ryan waits to unfold it until it's progressed past his knee.

The story starts with the breakdown of Harry and Ginny's marriage after Harry's affairs with men. The emotional arc of all characters, both children and adults, is handled maturely and compassionately. Draco gets woven into the tale very naturally, nothing about the romance seems forced. Really, I could go on about this story for pages. It's that fantastic.

First person POV and stream-of-conciousness! Terribly angsty. The imagery completely sucked me in with its quirky, unusual details. Author is missing in action.
